Below are some tips you may not learn in CDL School. Though there are many trainers and instructors who will shoot straight with you, there are many that will omit some negatives and many without intent of omitting negatives and warnings, but in their haste t get through each, do so. |

| Although everyone knows the trucking industry is a little different than other industries (complete with its own lingo), resigning from a trucking company should be no different than any other American company. First, if you have just completed trucking school, and this is your first job, you really need to think about sticking it out for at least one year, and if the company has an "open door" policy and they say it is OK to quit at any time, you better think twice about leaving your big rig anywhere other your home terminal. |

| The truck driver community is in a class of it's own. Has it's own slang language, more maverick than other industry workers, has at any given time several people's lives at stake, 100% of the public depending on their job getting completed every day and in general, a lot of responsibility. First, if you have just completed trucking school, and this is your first job, you really need to think about sticking it out for at least one year, and if the company has an "open door" policy and they say it is OK to quit at any time, you should talk to other drivers to find out if that is REALLY the case. | |||
| It's easy to get rattled over events out on the road. Many of the hours you spend behind the wheel are boring and at the vey least white knuckle related. Road rage is not uncommon. Don't just up and quit, walk away while under a load. Take that truck in yourself, get a walk-around inspection, get the signed paperwork and get a release from service which is also signed by the TM or safety mgr and in some cases the owner. Not following this procedure could gravely affect your career as a professional truck driver and could get you black balled from the industry altogether. If you're a hot head, a truck driving job may not be for you. If you want to make good money as a truck driver and can handle it, go for it! Be safe, be smart and keep the shiny side up! | |||
